The Suburbs

Suburban sounds live and direct

The Suburbs is a hot happening new music venue in Guildford, situated within the Holroyd Arms pub. With a large variety of artists including superb local acts, The Suburbs has something for everyone.

"Another bloody brilliant night out down the Suburbs at The Holroyd Arms Guildford . I can't believe how much this place has improved since my first visit years back , when quiet frankly I wouldn't have gone out my way to ever go back.

Andrew Hamilton with no doubt a bit of help from Andy Davis & a few others have turned this into a great venue , with some great bands coming up on the gig list , the Members , Eddie & The Hot Rods , UK Subs the list goes on. Check out the venue it's brilliant !

Friday night was Deadlock UK , R.E.D. & the Heavy Drapes all for the princely sum of 5 quid. Value for money or what . The atmosphere in the venue is great , a real friendly atmosphere , the staff brilliant , it's always a good laugh , with a bit of a party feel to it..

Deadlock UK were first on , great set as always ,Secret Police , Forgotten Youth ,still sound classic , if my memory serves me correctly they formed in 1979 , seen them a few times over the years , great band , great blokes . Oh yeah and thank you very much for the album , much appreciated

Nice touch at the end " Something Better Change" dedicated to an absent friend Anton , seems weird going to a Guildford gig and he's not there .

R.E.D. ( Religion Equals Decay ) were bloody brilliant , if you ain't seen them check them out , they never disappoint . One of the best bands on the circuit , one album under their belts and it's already sold out and going for repress . There's a lot of people talking about this band . I think I've only missed one of their gigs so far. If you ain't seen 'em yet , make the bloody effort , it'll be well worth it.

You can catch them at Bash the Bishop fest & Tony Smith 's Sound of the Suburbs 2nd Anniversary party on 14th July in Ruislip

The Heavy Drapes , well what can you say , Andy Luckett ( lucky Buddha boy " please rub his belly for luck " ) well he was right they are pretty damn fine. Seen them a few times now . they've got a certain swagger , you can't help but love 'em

There are some great photos taken by Alan Poole on the night which make my feeble efforts pale into insignificance , so here's a few vids from the night.( hopefully the right way up ) ok and a couple of crappy photos"
